Electricians perform a wide variety of tasks such as installing, repairing, maintaining, commissioning and testing electronic and electrical systems and equipment. Apprentice electricians typically work under the supervision of skilled electricians. These apprentice electricians get on-the-job training and expand their knowledge about electronics so they may be eligible for jobs as electricians someday. Although specific tasks and duties of apprentice electricians vary, they are typically assigned routine tasks early on in the apprenticeship. These include manufacturing, construction, energy and water supply, domestic and commercial electronics service, retail, minerals, mining and transport. Apprentice electricians can also work for various government organisations or seek to be employed by other contractors and skilled electricians.
Successful apprentice electricians possess a number of skills and abilities. They are the ones who have learned the methods and practices of the electrician's trade. Apprentice electricians should also know how to perform general physical activities as well as solve problems and make decisions. Successful apprentice electricians enjoy performing technical and mathematical activities. Because this job entails contact with other individuals, apprentice electricians should have good interpersonal and communication skills.
Apprentice electricians may work in private homes, manufacturers' factories or work shops. Those who work as apprentice electricians may have to work in small, cramped spaces and stand for long periods of time. Apprentice electricians may also be tasked to work at heights on towers, roofs and masts. It's important for apprentice electricians to know about safety regulations and always make use of protective equipment.
