HGT Australia Ltd, a not-for-profit group-training organisation, is proud of its contribution to skilling the workforce of the Hunter Valley.

In the 25 years since its inception, HGT Australia Ltd has employed almost 3000 apprentices and trainees across a wide range of occupations.

The organisation is also proud to be associated with the Hunter Regional Apprentice and Trainee Awards (HRATA) as a means of demonstrating the achievements of the Hunter's training workforce.

According to Mr Phil Petersen, state GTO manager, the awards provide a focal point for celebrating the commitment of local apprentices and trainees, their families and employers.

"Completing a training period of up to four years is a real achievement," Mr Petersen said.

"We think every apprentice and trainee who graduates from their training period has achieved a very important milestone in their life and have established a sound platform on which to build their future career.

"For us as apprentice and trainee specialists, supporting someone in the achievement of their goals is a tremendously satisfying experience, and it is only topped by the opportunity to recognise and celebrate those apprentices and trainees who have been judged by the HRATA Committee each year as the top in their trade area in the Hunter Region."

Mr Petersen said that in 2005 HGT Australia was proudly celebrating the achievements of Dane Hinchcliffe, a fourth-year apprentice motor mechanic currently hosted by Gerry Wubbels Automatics at Gateshead, as well as Madeline Todd who completed her business administration traineeship while employed and hosted by the HGT group.

"Madeleine has had a stellar year, having earlier this year been judged as the NSW Group Training business Administration Trainee of the Year."

Looking forward, HGT Australia Ltd has just started its major recruitment drive for apprentices and trainees.

"Based on advance orders from our employer hosts we expect to engage at least 150 apprentices and trainees during 2005/2006.

"We are now taking applications for a range of positions in 16 trade areas including apprentice electricians, boilermakers, fitter machinists, plumbers, plasterers, mechanics, carpenters, sheet metal workers and drafters.

"For those looking for a traineeship position we also expect to engage trainees in areas such as aero skills occupations, horticulture, child care, IT and stores and retail positions."
